Monthly Meeting

Traditionally, each October and March, our society comes together to host a delicious potluck prior to our monthly meeting. Everyone brings their favorite dish to share and it is a wonderful time to exchange rose stories, share updates about our families and friends, and meet new members.

This month our potluck will start at 6:00 p.m. just prior to our monthly presentation on October 20th. Please bring your delicious dishes according to the leading letter of your last name as indicated below. Homemade dishes are the tastiest and best!

Following the potluck, we will have our program and speaker with the program beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Please bring a dish large enough to feed 8 people. Also please bring serving utensils and your own plates, napkins and utensils.

N—Z Main Dish

F—M Salad or Side Dish

A—E Dessert

If you are bringing a homemade dish it is helpful to bring a small piece of paper or index card with the name of the dish you are bringing. It is also helpful to those with dietary restrictions to note if the dish is vegetarian or gluten-free.

Our guest speaker will be Mr. Greg White of Grow More based in Gardena, California. Greg is involved with the sales department and has great knowledge of Grow More fertilizer products. He may have new products to introduce at his visit.

Following Mr. White’s presentation, there will be a panel discussion featuring Ruth Tiffany, Bill Ornelas and Zella Burk. The topic will be the “Importance of Fertilizing and Labeling Your Rose Plants”. Ruth is a Master Rosarian, award winning exhibitor, and the ARS Pacific Southwest District Director. She has organized our annual Grow More product fertilizer event since 2011. She will discuss fertilizers and amendments useful for growing roses in our area. She will also give a discussion on labeling your plants. Bill Ornelas is an award-winning exhibitor and Consulting Rosarian. He will describe his fertilization regimen. Zella Burk is a new Consulting Rosarian but has extensive experience in growing roses, particularly in containers.

She will discuss her labeling challenges and talk about her “new to me” donated sump pump and fertilizing method. The panel will also field questions from the audience. Hopefully your fertilizing stores have been depleted this growing season, and your blooms have been a riot of color and fragrance. Plan to attend this October meeting with your covered dish and take a moment to think about what you would like to feed YOUR roses in 2026.

In addition to the potluck, the meeting will begin with the last Little Rose Show of 2025. Exhibitors in the Little Rose Show can begin to stage their blooms at 6:00 p.m. Everyone, please feel free to bring your blooms to exhibit. Experienced exhibitors will be available to help stage your blooms.

There will be no Auction of Roses or Consulting Rosarian Corner at this meeting.
