SDRS Monthly Meeting

Our September meeting will beging at 6:30 with refreshments in room 101 at the Casa del Prado

and a chance to meet and greet friends we haven’t seen for the summer as well as getting to know some

new members of our society. There will be a Little Rose Show so, even though we have had some hot

days this summer, try to bring some of your best rose blooms to exhibit. There will also be a Rose

Auction and a Raffle. Our expert speakers will begin their presentations at 7:00 p.m.

It is hard to believe that summer is already winding down! We hope everyone had a wonderful

summer and is ready to get back to enjoying our monthly rose meetings.

For our September meeting, we are looking forward to an informative and fun Round Table

Discussion about different aspects of spraying our roses featuring several of our Consulting Rosarians.

We will have a great group up front and center, each bringing something a little different to share.

Natalie Stout will kick things off with a short PowerPoint presentation—a reworking of one of our

own Bob Martin’s past programs on Chemical Safety. It is an important subject for all of us who care

for roses, and Natalie will bring a fresh perspective to this timely topic.

Dawn Isbell will take us on a little trip into the past. She has been digging through the archives and

has found some fascinating information about rose care from years gone by. Dawn will compare the

methods and products used in the past with the way we care for our roses today. It should be interesting

to see just how much has changed—and perhaps discover that some of those old ideas still have

something to teach us!

Ruth Tiffany will share some exciting news about a new product she has been trying this season.

Her results so far seem to have been quite successful, and we are looking forward to hearing what she

has discovered and whether this might be something worth trying in our own gardens.

The September Spray discussion will be a great preamble to covering an alternate gardening

approach at our October Meeting when our own Rita Perwich will join us to share her philosophy and

methods for Chemical-Free Gardening as she premiers her new book Natural Rose Gardening: The

Organic Guide to Growing Amazing Blooms, which is set for publication on October 6.

So, come join us for an enjoyable evening of ideas, experiences, and a little rose-growing

conversation. Bring your questions, your own experiences, and perhaps a few tips to share. You never

know what new idea you might take home with you!

We look forward to seeing everyone in September!
